Getting help

If something is not working as expected, use the contact form or email support@cody1.co.uk with your iPhone model, iOS version, Tesla software version if relevant, and a short description of what happened. Include whether the dashboard was running and whether your Tesla was connected to your iPhone hotspot.

First-time setup

1. Pair your iPhone with your Tesla over Bluetooth for audio.
2. Enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone.
3. Connect your Tesla to the iPhone hotspot Wi-Fi network.
4. Open cPlay and tap Start Dashboard.
5. Copy the displayed local address and open it in the Tesla browser.
6. Bookmark the address on your Tesla for future drives.

Common fixes

• Update to the latest version of cPlay from the App Store.
• Check Local Network permission in iOS Settings → cPlay.
• Confirm the Tesla is connected to your iPhone hotspot, not another Wi-Fi network.
• Keep cPlay open in the foreground while driving; iOS may suspend the local server when the app is backgrounded.
• Refresh the Tesla browser if the WebSocket shows disconnected.
• Restart the dashboard from cPlay if widgets stop updating.
• Disable Low Power Mode if the server stops unexpectedly.
• Plug in your iPhone on long drives; cPlay keeps the screen awake while the dashboard is running.

Connection and networking

• Hotspot IP is often 172.20.10.1, but use the address shown in cPlay.
• If the Tesla cannot reach the dashboard, check Diagnostics in the app for active network interfaces.
• Personal Hotspot may use cellular data when the Tesla browser accesses the wider internet through your phone.

Widgets and permissions

• Calendar: grant calendar access in iOS Settings or cPlay Settings.
• Weather: requires location permission while the app is in use.
• Contacts: choose favourite contacts in cPlay after granting access.
• Music: media controls work most reliably with Apple Music.
• Navigation: map and route actions open Waze or Apple Maps on your iPhone.
• HomeKit: scenes must already exist in the Home app.
• Voice assistant: add your own OpenAI API key in cPlay Settings and grant microphone and speech recognition permissions.

Drive Mode automation

cPlay includes Shortcuts actions for starting and stopping the dashboard, plus an in-app Drive Mode setup guide. A typical automation runs when your Tesla connects over Bluetooth: toggle Personal Hotspot, then run Start Dashboard. Bookmark the dashboard URL on your Tesla so you only need to open the browser.

Known limitations

• cPlay is not Apple CarPlay and does not mirror your iPhone screen.
• Native iOS apps such as Waze, Maps, and Spotify must open on the iPhone for full turn-by-turn or app-specific behaviour.
• Third-party media app controls are limited by iOS; Apple Music is the most reliable option.
• Tesla browser capabilities vary by vehicle software version.
